How it works

We watch the sources. You decide what to do.

Most mid-sized UK practices do not have a dedicated compliance researcher. Partners and seniors still need to know when HMRC guidance moves, Companies House processes change, or a mid-week item cannot wait until Monday. Practice Signal is a retainer service built for exactly that.

The weekly cycle

From public source to Monday inbox.

Every brief is built from that week’s verified changes, and every item links back to the official page.

  1. Monitor

We monitor public UK sources on our watchlist, principally HMRC and Companies House, expanding as further feeds are verified.

  2. Filter and draft

We filter for practice relevance and draft a plain-English brief. Every item is labelled Action, Watch or Ignore, with a link to the primary source.

  3. Spot-check

A person spot-checks material flags before the brief is sent.

  4. Monday brief

The brief arrives on Monday morning by email, ready to forward to staff.

  5. Mid-week alerts

On Standard and Full, when a material Action item cannot wait until Monday, we send a short alert.

  6. Archive

You keep every brief for staff training and internal reference.

Anatomy of a brief

The same structure every week.

Predictable layout means partners know where to look, and staff can act on it without a covering note.

The detail

What you can rely on, and what you cannot.

Sources

Each brief summarises publicly available material from official sources, for example GOV.UK, HMRC, Companies House, the FCA, legislation.gov.uk and professional-body regulatory pages. Our core watchlist is HMRC and Companies House; other regulators are added as their feeds are verified. We say so when an area is pending verification.

Tailored to your client mix

Every brief is filtered to your practice. Lean uses one practice profile (a single client-mix filter, for example SMEs, landlords, contractors or payroll-heavy). Standard adds tighter filtering to the service lines you name. Full adds multi-segment tagging for up to three practice segments. Your two free briefs are tailored to your client mix.

How we use AI

Drafting is assisted; material items are spot-checked by a person before they go out. We never present model output as advice.

What success looks like

You forward the brief to staff without rewriting it. That is the test we ask you to apply during a pilot.

Is it a fit?

Who Practice Signal is for.

A good fit if you are

  • A UK accountancy practice of roughly 5–40 staff
  • Without a full-time compliance researcher, but partners still need to stay current
  • A team that will forward a tight brief rather than rewrite a newsletter
  • Partners, managers, seniors or AML and quality leads who want a shared weekly view

Not the right fit if you want

  • Something to rely on as advice. Practice Signal is information; your judgement stays yours.
  • A full replacement for a research database such as Croner-i, Tolley or CCH
  • Software integrations from week one

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is this legal or tax advice?

No. It is general information about public regulatory developments. Always check the primary source and apply your own professional judgement. See our important notice.

Who is it for?

UK accountancy practices of roughly 5–40 staff that need a shared weekly view without hiring a full-time compliance researcher.

What sources do you cover?

Public sources on our watchlist: principally HMRC and Companies House guidance and updates, with additional regulators and legislation feeds as they are verified. We do not claim complete coverage of every UK regulatory change.

How is this different from AccountingWEB or a research database?

We filter for practice relevance, structure every item as Action, Watch or Ignore, and aim for a brief your partners can forward without rewriting. We are not a substitute for full research products.

What does the pilot include?

Four weeks of the Standard plan (the Monday brief, mid-week alerts for material Action items, and tighter filtering to named service lines) at £500 for the four weeks. Success looks like this: you forward the brief to staff without rewriting it.

Can you tailor by client mix?

Yes. Every plan is filtered to your practice. Lean uses one practice profile (a single client-mix filter); Standard adds tighter filtering to named service lines; Full adds multi-segment tagging for up to three practice segments. Your two free briefs are tailored to your client mix too. Tell us your main client mix (for example SMEs, landlords, contractors, payroll-heavy) when you start.

Do you use AI?

Drafting is assisted; material items are spot-checked by a person. We never present model output as advice.

Are you affiliated with HMRC, the FCA or ICAEW?

No.
